Airtel Launches 4G in Bhiwadi & Neemrana; Buys 4G Spectrum From Aircel In 8 Circles

Airtel is doing its best for expanding its 4G footprint across the nation. After launching its 4G services in the cities of Ajmer, Udaipur, Kota, Alwar, and Bhilware in Rajasthan, the telecom operator has now launched its 4G network in 2 more cities- Bhiwadi and Neemrana.

With this launch, Airtel 4G is now available across 7 cities in Rajasthan on a range of devices including dongles and hot spots.

Airtel knows that people now want to use high-speed data services for accessing various services on the web.

“As customers in India show an increasing propensity for consuming data services, we at Airtel are excited to take the lead in introducing customers in Rajasthan to their first ever experience of blazing 4G speeds. Today, as we launch Airtel 4G for our customers in these two towns of Rajasthan, customers can look forward to a superlative data experience,” said Airtel Rajasthan CEO, Manoj Murali.

Existing Airtel customers can easily switch to Airtel 4G to visiting the nearest Airtel store and upgrade to a 4G SIM. Trial 4G packs start at Rs. 21, and as a launch offer, Airtel is offering 4G at 3G prices.

Airtel Buys Aircel 4G Spectrum In 8 Telecom Circles

In a move to counter the threat of Reliance Jio, Airtel has inked a spectrum trading deal with Aircel to buy its 4G spectrum in 8 telecom circles for Rs. 3,500 crore.

With this deal, Airtel would now be in a position to launch its 4G services in Tamil Nadu (including Chennai), J&K, West Bengal, Assam, North East, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Orissa. As per the deal, Airtel would be able to use 20 MHz of the 2300 MHz band in all these 8 telecom circles.

“Bharti Airtel and its subsidiary, Bharti Hexacom have entered into a definitive agreements with Aircel Ltd and its subsidiaries Dishnet Wireless Ltd and Aircel Cellular Ltd to acquire rights to use 20 MHz of 2300 Band 4G spectrum for eight circles for an aggregate consideration of Rs 3500 crore,” said Bharti Airtel in a statement.

It is worth noting that Airtel acquired Videocon’s 4G spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in 6 circles just last month for a total of Rs. 4,428 crores.

Airtel is doing all it can to counter the threat of Reliance Jio. RJio is expected to do a soft launch of its services this month, but the wide commercial launch is reported to have been pushed to December 2016.

The more RJio will delay the launch, the more powerful the incumbent players will become. But then it would translate into a very competitive market and thus in fact lead to affordable 4G offerings. And who doesn’t want cheap 4G data packs?
