The India pesticides market has witnessed remarkable growth in terms of volume of pesticides produced over the last seven years. India was observed as the 4th largest producer of pesticides in the world after the US, Japan and China and the second largest producer of pesticides in the entire Asian region during FY’2015.

Presently, the industry is grounded by large number of public and private companies. The growth in the Indian pesticides market over the period FY’2010-FY’2015 was primarily supplemented by the remarkably rising population and inflating agricultural commodity prices. During 2010, the Indian agrochemicals market benefited.

agrochemicals market benefited from the rain pattern and the industry witnessed increasing farmer preference towards high-value and high-quality products and rapid adoption of new technologies. The steady increase in BT cotton acreage is illustrative of the same. With the advent of Bollguard II, there was a further increase in the BT Cotton acreages. In spite of this, the usage of insecticides improved, with farmers focusing more on the control of the sucking pests.

By FY’2015, the growth rate of the industry increased slightly to 7% and revenues were registered as INR ~ million. The reason for no significant change in growth rate was the scanty rainfall and near drought conditions in monsoon months of 2014.
