“When I joined KIAMS my aim was to understand the business world and work towards my goals. But my learning at the B-School has gone way beyond that. For me, it’s the only place that focuses on overall grooming so that you become a confident professional,” says Shaivi Kharbikar, student of PGDM Batch 2015 – 2017. The girl from Bhopal made her way to Pune to get a head-start in her corporate career. At the end of the program, she managed to do just that after bagging a placement with Alchemist as a Management Associate in her chosen domain of Marketing.

What sets KIAMS apart?

Shaivi admits that being a small town girl, studying on the diverse campus like KIAMS was a learning experience in itself. The flexibility of the program ensured that things were engaging at all times. “As you do your PGDM here, you have the option of choosing modules,” she explains. “This kind of flexibility makes studying interesting and oriented to students’ interests. On campus, you meet students from all over the country. So at KIAMS you are learning every day; through books, observations and your peers too.

Industry exposure throughout the program

According to Shaivi, one of the highlights at KIAMS was its industry-oriented approach. At the B-School, students have an opportunity to gain insight from industry professionals with over three decades of experience. In addition, SIPs build on their classroom learning. “I did my SIP with Enthusias Service Private Ltd, Bangalore. Working there taught me how to function in a corporate culture, meet deadlines and live in a metropolitan city,” she says.

Perfect preparation for placements

Her SIP was with a digital marketing company, a domain similar to her new employer. Shaivi asserts that she could leverage the experience she had gained during her SIP as she tried to make a good impression in the placement process. “I recalled everything I had learned during the SIP and gave the right examples in the interview. It made them realize that I could apply the management concepts I had learned to real-life situations. It has given me the platform to work in the advertising and marketing domain, which was my dream,” she adds enthusiastically.

The transformation is complete

Shaivi believes that she has had the best start to her career, especially in the field of Marketing, which offers her immense scope to grow. She stresses the importance of knowing Kotler and the basics of Marketing thoroughly if you want to make it in the field. But above all, she encourages her juniors to make the most out of the opportunities at KIAMS and grow as an individual. “When I came here I was a nervous student, but I remained curious. I think that’s the best way to learn and transform into a confident, well groomed professional,” she concludes.
